Donation Transparency Policy

Why this exists

Restore the Legacy is committed to transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of all financial contributions received.

Donations support the protection and restoration of tropical rainforest ecosystems, community-based environmental initiatives, and research aimed at strengthening regenerative land-use systems.

This policy explains how financial contributions are allocated, managed, and reported.

Guiding principle

All donations are used to advance Restore the Legacy’s mission to restore and protect natural ecosystems while supporting the communities connected to them.

The organisation is committed to:

  • Responsible financial management

  • Transparent communication about funding use

  • Measurable environmental and social impact

Types of funding

Restore the Legacy receives financial support through several channels, including:

  • Individual donations

  • Corporate contributions

  • Philanthropic funding

  • Institutional grants

Each funding source may support either general organisational activities or specific projects and initiatives.

Allocation of funds

Donations may be allocated to:

  • Rainforest restoration and conservation projects

  • Community-based environmental initiatives

  • Research and innovation programs

  • Monitoring and impact measurement

  • Operational costs required to manage and implement projects

Operational costs may include administration, coordination, research, reporting, monitoring systems, and organisational infrastructure necessary to deliver environmental impact.

Project-based contributions

Many corporate contributions support specific environmental projects or initiatives.

When contributions are designated for a specific project:

  • Funds are allocated to activities related to that initiative

  • Partners may receive information regarding project progress and environmental impact

  • Relevant data may be shared for sustainability reporting purposes

If a project cannot proceed due to unforeseen circumstances, Restore the Legacy may allocate the funds to a comparable initiative aligned with the organisation’s mission.

Financial oversight

Restore the Legacy is established as a Dutch ANBI (Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling) foundation and operates in accordance with the governance, transparency, and reporting requirements applicable to ANBI organisations in the Netherlands.

Financial management and allocation decisions fall under Restore the Legacy’s internal governance and oversight structures.

The organisation maintains internal records of funding allocations and project expenditures and publishes required organisational information in line with ANBI transparency requirements.

Restore the Legacy operates with an internal budget review structure, where project budgets may be reviewed and evaluated by a budget committee to ensure responsible allocation of resources, feasibility of project plans, and alignment with the organisation’s mission.

These processes support responsible financial stewardship and ensure that resources are allocated in a way that maximises environmental and social impact.

Impact reporting

Restore the Legacy strives to provide clear and meaningful information about the environmental impact generated through its projects.

Where applicable, project partners and supporters may receive impact information related to:

  • Ecosystem restoration activities

  • Biodiversity protection

  • Regenerative land-use systems

  • Community-based environmental initiatives

Impact information may support corporate sustainability and impact reporting, including widely used frameworks such as the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), GRI (Global Reporting Initiative), ESG reporting frameworks, ISO sustainability standards, and corporate CSR reporting, among others. This enables partners to transparently integrate real-world environmental impact data into their sustainability disclosures.

Transparency

Restore the Legacy may communicate project activities, partnerships, and environmental impact through public communication channels, reports, or updates.

This helps ensure that supporters and partners can see how their contributions contribute to real-world environmental outcomes.

Commitment

Restore the Legacy recognises that trust is essential to meaningful environmental work.

By maintaining transparency in how funds are managed and impact is communicated, the organisation seeks to ensure that every contribution supports genuine, measurable progress toward healthier ecosystems.
