Gift & Donation Acceptance Policy

Why this exists

Restore the Legacy works with individuals, companies, and institutions to support the protection and restoration of tropical rainforest ecosystems.

While financial contributions are essential to advancing our mission, the organisation must ensure that all donations and partnerships align with our values, environmental integrity, and ethical standards.

This policy ensures that donations are accepted in a way that protects the independence, credibility, and long-term mission of Restore the Legacy.

Guiding principle

Restore the Legacy accepts donations that support our mission while maintaining full independence in how projects are designed, implemented, and communicated.

Financial contributions must never compromise:

  • Environmental integrity

  • Community wellbeing

  • Scientific credibility

  • Organisational independence

  • Public trust

Acceptable donations

Restore the Legacy may accept contributions from:

  • Individual donors

  • Companies and corporate partners

  • Foundations and philanthropic organisations

  • Institutional donors and grant providers

Donations may support:

  • General organisational operations

  • Specific conservation or restoration projects

  • Research and innovation initiatives

  • Community-based environmental programs

Donations that may be declined

Restore the Legacy reserves the right to decline donations or partnerships if accepting them could reasonably pose a risk to the organisation’s integrity, independence, or reputation.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Donations intended to influence organisational decisions or project outcomes

  • Funding tied to misleading environmental claims or greenwashing

  • Contributions from activities that directly contribute to severe environmental destruction or illegal practices

  • Donations that create conflicts with our mission to protect ecosystems, biodiversity, and communities

The organisation may also decline donations if conditions attached to the funding are incompatible with our governance principles.

Corporate partnerships

Corporate collaborations are welcome when they support genuine environmental improvement and responsible practices.

Restore the Legacy does not endorse or certify companies. Partnerships do not imply approval of all corporate activities.

The organisation maintains full independence over:

  • Project design

  • Scientific methodology

  • Impact measurement

  • Communication of project results

Conditional gifts

Donations that include restrictions or specific conditions will be reviewed before acceptance. Restore the Legacy reserves the right to decline gifts that:

  • Limit transparency

  • Restrict responsible reporting

  • Require misleading communication about environmental impact

Reallocation of funds

If a specific project cannot proceed due to unforeseen circumstances, Restore the Legacy reserves the right to allocate the funds to a comparable initiative aligned with the organisation’s mission.

Compliance

All donations are handled in accordance with Restore the Legacy’s governance framework, financial procedures, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Commitment

Restore the Legacy values partnerships built on trust, integrity, and shared responsibility for protecting the natural systems that support life on Earth.

By maintaining clear standards for accepting donations, we protect the credibility of our mission and the ecosystems we work to restore.
